The
Reishi Mushroom
Commonly known as Reishi in Japan,
Ganoderma is a mushroom that has many different names. The Chinese name, Ling
Zhi, translates to "spirit plant". It is also referred to as the "plant of
immortality", "ten thousand year mushroom", and "phantom mushroom". These
names describe the mushroom's reputation as an provider of longevity, spiritual
growth, and also its rarity.
Ling Zhi/Reishi is used as medicine in China and Japan for the treatment of many illnesses, including liver disease, kidney disease, hypertension, arthritis, nervous disorders, breathing trouble, and ulcers.
Both polysaccharides and triterpines are found in the Reishi Mushroom. Ploysaccharades stimulate immunity and demonstrate antitumor activity, and have been shown to increase DNA synthesis of spleen cells in mixed lymphocytic culture and increase both RNA and DNA synthesis in the bone marrow of mice. Triterpines are reported to have adaptogenic, antihypertensive, and anti-allergic effects.
The
Maitake Mushroom
Maitake Mushrooms originated in
Northern Japan but are found throughout the world today. Recent studies confirmed
Maitake to be the most potent medicinal mushroom in terms of immune enhancement
and antitumor activity, and it has an exceptional cancer growth inhibition
ratio. A tremendous interest in the medical community has been generated by
the Maitake Mushroom as a result. This has lead to an increase in studies
into the concept of using Maitake in conjunction with chemotherapy for cancer
patients.
The
Shiitake Mushroom
Shiitake Mushrooms are found on fallen deciduous trees. Shiitake
has also been used in Japanese and Chinese medicine and cuisine for thousands
of years. It contains proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, fiber, Vits B2 and
C, ergosterol (a precursor to Vit D), and various minerals and enzymes.
Shiitake contains Lentimula edodes mycelium extract (LEM) and lentinan, all of which have exhibited strong antitumor properties.
